2010 Workshop Series: Fundraising Fundamentals for Nonprofits

A FREE professional development opportunity

How can your organization survive and even thrive in 2011? One key to success is a fundraising strategy that includes several revenue streams. Geared to nonprofit staff and volunteers, this basic level workshop series covers the fundamentals of establishing and strengthening a fundraising program.

Although workshops are free, separate registration for each program is required. Participation in all seven workshops is not necessary, but encouraged. Attendees are welcome to bring lunch.

    Introduction to Fundraising Planning
    Successful nonprofit organizations cultivate multiple revenue streams through sound financial planning. If your organization has never developed a fundraising plan or calendar, this class is for you. You'll learn how to conduct an assets inventory, identify potential funding partners, and prepare a fundraising plan and calendar.

    Laying the Foundation: Developing a Case for Support
    Having a compelling case for why a foundation or individual should support your organization is critical to securing donations. This workshop provides an in-depth look at the content included in a Case for Support and explores its use as a cornerstone of your fundraising efforts.

    Introduction to Finding Funders
    Finding a good donor “fit” for your organization’s funding opportunities will significantly improve your success rate. This workshop explores online research tools, such as Foundation Directory Online Professional, which help you identify foundations and corporations that support programs and organizations like yours.

    Your Board and Fundraising
    Getting your board involved in the fundraising process is instrumental to your organization’s success. In this class we will discuss the role your board plays in fundraising, how to overcome board member concerns, ways the board can participate in the fundraising process, and tips for strengthening your fundraising board.

    Proposal Writing and Budgeting Basics
    Proposal writing is easier than you may think. The fundamentals of proposal writing, including budget preparation, as part of a basic grant proposal will be covered in this workshop. Geared to the novice grantseeker, this program discusses the key components of a proposal to a foundation, the kinds of expenses covered under “personnel”, and how to determine a request amount that is neither too high nor too low in relation to what you expect to accomplish.

    Fostering Relationships with Individual Donors
    In 2008, 75% of all nonprofit contributions were made by individuals. Developing a fundraising program that nurtures individual donors is critical to your organization’s long-term success. This workshop will explore the fundamentals of an effective individual donor program and how to foster strong donor relationships.
