This program is designed to create a better understanding of the
public, community foundation and the private, family foundation
and how to work with both from a grantee’s perspective. The
presentation will highlight the various fund types, the
application processes, the grant making cycle, and the need for
relationship building opportunities.
Topics include:

purposes of each type, and how each works with grantees
- The
types of funds and donor each foundation holds and manages
- How to
apply to each type
- Ways and
means to build relationships with each type of foundation,
now and in the future
Dr.
Suzanne Allen brings a wealth of experience from over 25
years in marketing and development roles in public and private
organizations. She holds degrees in marketing, human resource
development, and strategic planning. Currently, Suzanne serves
as the Vice President for Development at the Akron Community
Foundation, a 53 year old public foundation with a $145 million
endowment and a growing family of more than 300 funds.
Suzanne is on the board of AFP's North Central Ohio
Chapter, as well as a board member for Western Reserve Council
for Planning Giving. She is a member of the Akron Chapter of
LEAVE A LEGACY® and the Northern Ohio Planned Giving Council.
She serves as a volunteer with the American Heart Association
and is a member of the “Go Red Day” committee. Suzanne also
works as a volunteer with United Disabilities Services (UDS) and
is on the “Basket Ball Gala” Committee. She is a member of
Leadership Akron Alumni Association, (Class XII), and is a
member of the Council on Foundations.
In her spare time, she is a competitive archer and a “wanna –
be” falconer with membership in the Ohio Falconry Association.
She also is a weekly raptor care volunteer at Quail Hollow State
Park.
Robert
Bonchack is a Senior Vice President and Client Advisor in
the Private Client Services Group of FirstMerit Bank, N.A. He
has over 20 years experience in the areas of tax, estate, and
investment planning. Bob understands the complex issues that
face investors and their families, and he knows how to help them
attain financial security.
Bob received his Bachelor of Arts degree in History from
Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Bob then obtained
his Juris Doctorate of Law from Case Western University School
of Law. He is licensed to practice in the State of Ohio. But,
perhaps Bob’s most significant and lasting education came from
Milton Hershey School, a school established for orphan boys by
the founder of Hershey Chocolate Company. It was there that he
learned the good that can be done through prudent investments
and the use of trusts.
Bob is an active member of the Ohio State Bar Association,
the Akron Tax and Estate Planning Council, and Probate Section
of the Akron Bar Association. Bob serves on several foundation
boards including the Corbin Foundation and the Smith Foundation.
Bob is also involved with a number of charitable organizations,
including the Akron Art Museum, OPEN M, and Stan Hywet.
