About Summit County Internists & Associates, Inc.:

In December 1984, four internal medicine physicians who had completed their training at Akron City Hospital joined together to form Summit County Internists and Associates (SCIA). Their goal was to provide quality medical care for patients and training for internal medicine resident physicians. In the past twenty years, the practice has expanded their presence in the community to include 31 physicians, a psychologist, and eight different medical practices.

Throughout their growth, SCIA has continued to enhance their mission of high quality medical care and physician training. Today, they provide the faculty for the Internal Medicine Center (IMC) at Summa’s Akron City Hospital. The Internal Medicine Center sees hundreds of patients each year, many of whom are uninsured or underinsured. The dedicated doctors of SCIA teach new physicians the importance of giving back to the community while they are completing their training.

In addition to giving generously of their time, Summit County Internists donate heartfelt monetary gifts to a variety of Summa programs, including gifts to Hospice and Palliative Care Services, the DOVE programs (which provide forensic nursing services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault), the campaign to build a new critical care center, and medical education and research programs at Summa.

The support of Summit County Internists and Associates is not limited to the medical field. The breadth of their philanthropy crosses healthcare, the arts, civic good works, and education. They have given generously to a diverse array of organizations and endeavors, including NEOUCOM, the Akron Urban League, the American Cancer Society, the Ohio Ballet, OPEN M, The Ohio Fire Chiefs Association, the Police and Fire Olympics, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Weathervane Community Playhouse, Stewart’s Caring Place, and the American Diabetes Association.

In addition to their philanthropy, the physicians of Summit County Internists and Associates provide leadership to many other organizations and causes by serving on Boards, chairing fundraising campaigns, and leading committees. We are proud to honor this dedicated group of physicians and professionals on National Philanthropy Day with the Small Business Leadership Award.
