2005 Foundation Leadership Award:
Charles E. and Mabel M. Ritchie Memorial Foundation
nominated by Beth Davis, Director of Institutional Advancement, Seton Catholic School

About the Foundation:

The Charles E. and Mabel M. Ritchie Memorial Foundation was established in 1955 following the death of Mabel M. Ritchie. However, even before that time, both Mrs. Ritchie and her husband Charles, the first mayor of Tallmadge, were very active philanthropists who gave generous gifts to many people and organizations throughout greater Summit County.

Over the past five years, the assets of the Foundation have enabled gifts averaging $333,562 annually to over 60 local organizations for educational, civic, cultural, and charitable purposes. Grants ranged from $1,000 to $15,000. Since 1982, the Foundation has awarded grants totaling nearly $6,208,000.

Seton Catholic School, an independent Catholic school established in 1997, has received three grants from The Charles E. and Mabel M. Ritchie Memorial Foundation. In June of 2000, Seton Catholic School received a grant for $5,000 for the Seton 2000 Campaign, a campaign to ensure the future of the school. Additionally, in September of 2003 Seton Catholic School was awarded a $7,500 grant for Capital Campaign Phase I, which helped us to build a new 21,000 sq. ft. building. Most recently, in October of 2004, The Charles E. and Mabel M. Ritchie Memorial Foundation again gifted Seton Catholic School with a grant of $3,000 to outfit the new building with security equipment.

We are most grateful for the friendship and support of The Charles E. and Mabel M. Ritchie Memorial Foundation and its officers.
