About Dr. Clayton:
In
1948, at the tender age of 37, Dr. Glenn L. Clayton was
appointed President of Ashland College, the youngest in the
college’s history. His vision and leadership led the
college to grow from a campus of four buildings and 300 students
into one with 36 buildings and 2,000 students. He retired in
1977 and soon became a fundraising executive with Ashland
Samaritan Hospital. Dr. Clayton returned to Ashland University
four years later as a general consultant and accepted an
assignment as Director of Endowment Clubs. At the age of 93, Dr.
Clayton continues to work at Ashland University in the same
capacity.
Dr. Clayton has promoted endowment giving and
general university awareness by creating Alumni Roundtable
luncheons and dinners which are held throughout Ohio and
neighboring states. The Roundtables have grown scholarship funds
from a handful to more than 400 named scholarships totaling $13
million.
Dr. Clayton has held many positions with civic
and philanthropic organizations during his career. He is an
active member of Park Street Brethren Church and serves as
chairman of the Ashland Civil Service Commission, Trustee
Emeritus of the Board of Trustees of Ashland University and is a
member of the Ashland Chamber of Commerce, the Board of
Directors for Brethren Care Village and member of The Rotary
Club of Ashland.
